K-16 Literacy Center Overview
The K-16 Literacy Center is a non-profit educational unit operated within the School of Education by the College of Education and Psychology at The University of Texas at Tyler. Its core purpose is focused on strengthening literacy instruction and improving academic achievement outcomes of K-16 students at the university, school, and community levels.
Under the direction and leadership of Dr. Kouider Mokhtari and Dr. Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy, and with the support of the Tyler Sunrise Rotary Club, Phi Kappa Phi, and the K-16 Literacy Center, the Born to Read program was launched in 2017. Many exciting things have happened since that time. The Born to Read program currently provides service to 7 different cities in East Texas, including Tyler, Whitehouse, Flint, Mabank, Canton, Longview, and Rusk.
